7 Reasons Why You Should Attend an MBA Information Session

1. Learning more about the program: Although the official website of most schools has the necessary information about the program, there are different aspects about the school that are best understood by actually listening to the admissions committee or the admissions director talk about them.

2. From the horse's mouth: Many of you would have gone through the FAQ sections of business school websites, become members of various GMAT and MBA forums, posted your doubts regarding something specific to your profile and yet not managed to get a satisfactory answer. Info sessions offer you the chance to get a few of those "specific" questions answered by members of the admissions committee.

3. Evaluating your profile: Unless the info session has a large number of attendees, chances are that you yourself will be able to speak with a member of the admissions committee or the admissions director himself. You can use this opportunity to get an idea whether you are a right fit for the program.

4. Alumni Interaction: Your primary motivation behind an MBA is likely to be career growth, career switch, or your interest in starting your own enterprise. Info sessions allow you to interact with alumni and learn how well they have been able to leverage their MBA from a particular school.

5. Checking out the neighborhood: When you move houses, one of the first things you do is check out the neighborhood. An MBA information session allows you to "check out the neighborhood", so to speak, and help you better evaluate whether the environment you will be spending the next year or two in is conducive to both personal and professional growth.

6. Networking: One cannot underscore the importance of networking in business school. An MBA info session provides you with a great platform to not only network with alumni and representatives of the business school but also other MBA aspirants and learn more about their background.

7. Name recall: Last but perhaps the most important reason for you to attend an information session is to show the admissions committee your interest in the program. Ask for business cards and offer yours. When they sift through hundreds of application and notice that you attended an info session, chances are that they would remember your profile.
